Our Experience of Traveling between Bali and Java

Each of our travels in Indonesia has been an adventure, and this route is no different.  We took a bus from Ubud to Denpasar, then hopped on another bus to Gilimanuk. From there, we boarded the ferry to Ketapang in Java. The ferry ride was smooth, and it felt like the perfect transition from Bali’s tropical vibes to the more rugged landscapes of Java. Once we arrived at Ketapang, we continued by bus to Banyuwangi, which was the perfect base for visiting Kawah Ijen.

The trip wasn’t overly complicated, and while it did take some time, the experience of traveling overland with a mix of transport was something special. Plus, it’s an affordable way to get to Java if you’re on a budget and enjoy a little adventure along the way.
