Hi Lisa – thanks for your comments! When we travelled the observation car was on the FRONT of the train – so it was like sitting in from of a big picture window watching the world coming towards you! It was great. The trains are quite bouncy especially up to Jaffna but it’s a great way to travel! Enjoy!

Do you recommend the observation cars with the rear facing window or are the second class seats just as good? I am looking for a local experimece and also get pretty car sick. I’m wondering how it is traveling backwards.
