You can take songthaews to get around, but they tend to be focused on getting people to and from the speedboats. However, they are there. It is very rare to be asked for a motorbike license in Thailand, especially on the islands. If you’re asked for a license, then its usually a car license.

Just one thing though, not many people actually have motorcycle licences so recommending hiring a bike is probably not an option for many /most. How would we get around without our own transport? Would it be worth coming but only for a day or two as opposed to a week?
