Hey is there a bus that goes the other way?
Salento – Jardin
Perrier – Jardin?
Hi there, sorry for the delay. There is currently no direct bus from Salento to Jardin, and I’ve just reconfirmed that with FLota Occidental. And to go from Pereira to Jardin you will need to go via Rio Sucio too. 🙁
Hi Sarah,
thanks for your information. I am in Jardin right now. I am thinking to go to Salento but am afraid the long bus trip because I got quite carsick when I came on bus from Medellin a few days ago. Do you think I should take a break stopping halfway in RioScio or somewhere else to make the long bus trip tolerable? or just keep going and take one rough ride in the shortest time.
Regards, Hannah
Hi Hannah, so sorry to hear that. The ride from Jardin to Rio Sucio is pretty windy (most of the drop offs are on the right hand side of the road), and the road is very bumpy/unpaved in lots of places, its only the last few km that are on smoother roads. The road from Rio Sucio to Salento is generally good – less windy until you come to the drive up to Salento (maybe 20 minutes or so depending on the traffic and roadworks). If you can I’d stick it out, knowing that the worst is over – the road from Rio Sucio to Salento is all paved if that makes a difference.
Hey, just wondering if the first bus from Jardin to Rio Sucio is ever really delayed (my experience of Latin American buses hasn’t been the most straightforward so far)?
I’m just conscious there’s not masses of time between arriving at Rio Sucio and getting the next bus to Salento?
Hi Benjamin – we did ask and were told by two separate people that if its a short delay, the bus waits – as 99% of the people going from Rio Sucio to Salento come from the Jardin bus. As for a long delay, I’m afraid we were subject to a shrug…
Hello, Your info on the buses is great. I am planning to go from Salento to Jardin.
Can you help me with information with the Rio Sucio to Jardin route. Are there mini-buses that take a longer route on a highway? I read this in another post.
Hi there! I haven’t heard about the minibus route, just that there are two buses from Rio Sucio to Jardin (0800 and 1400) and that they take the unpaved mountain road the we took in the opposite direction. If you want to take highways, then your best route from Salento to Jardin would be to go from Salento to Medellin terminal sur and then grab a bus from there to Jardin. (I don’t think it saves any time, either journy will be as long as the other, but this would be highway roads, rather than unpaved. Let me know how you go!
Thanks for this update!
Hi, I’m currently in Colombia and am hoping to go from Salento to Jardin in a day. You talked about a direct bus from Rio Sucio to Salento, do you know if there’s one from Salento to Rio Sucio at one time?
Thank you 🙂
Hi Hannah – There is a bus, I just had it confirmed by Flota Occidental. It leaves at 0750 each day and costs 30,000 COP. I’ll email you as well, in case you don’t get this in time.
Hey, just did this route in reverse Salento to Jardin and thought I would share updates.
It’s 32,000 from Salento – Rio sucio and the bus was modern with a Tv screen in each seat and WiFi – much better than expected. The route was straight forward and we arrived in Rio Sucio at 11.30am.
Rio Sucio – we managed to get a bus at 12.30pm, for 26,000 per person. This is a minibus rather than a bus. it hasn’t gone the ‘google maps’ suggested route but instead a very long and all around the houses. This leg of the journey has taken 5 hours.
Thanks so much for the update!
Hello! I will be traveling from Jardin to Salento this Feb, but hoping to break up the journey a bit by taking the 2:00 pm bus from Jardin – Riosucio, spending the night in Riosucio and then going to Salento the following day. Would you happen to know if there are earlier buses (at least earlier than the 12:00 pm one you referenced) from Riosucio to Salento to possibly Pereira?
Thank you!
Hi Aliya – I don’t know I’m afraid. You can try asking the bus company on Facebook, they responded to me a couple of times (and they didn’t respond a couple of other times too!), here’s the link to their Facebook messages – https://www.facebook.com/messages/t/flotaoccidental – good luck and let us know how you get on! Sarah
Thank you Sarah! Will try that!

Hey! Firstly thank you for this article, we completed the journey yesterday.
The bus from Rip Sucre goes at 12.30 which was a relief as the bus from Jardín took 4 1/4 hours – we had a chicken bus, I think this may be due to the wet season as roads were very flooded and it was painfully slow
Actual price from Jardín to Rio Sucio is 26k /p.
Thanks so much for the update, I’ve made that change to the pricing on the article.
