The easiest way to go from Bangkok to Ayutthaya is to prebook a minivan. You can opt for door-to-door transfers and avoid having to get to the bus station for ultimate convenience too.

Where is Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya is about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Bangkok, in the Central Plains of Thailand.  Ayutthaya is at the center of three rivers the Chao Phraya River, the Lopburi River, and the Pa Sak River.  The historical ruins are on an island at the center of where the rivers join.  Most of the ruins to visit are in the west of the island and places to stay, eat and drink are in the northeast of the island. If you arrive on the train, then you won’t be on the island, but it’s just a matter of walking to the bridge, or getting one of the small ferry boats over.  If you arrive in a minivan, then you will be on the island.

For transport from Ayutthaya to Bangkok, then you have several options.  You can take a minivan from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, you can take the train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya or you can take a taxi to Ayutthaya from Bangkok.  The easiest way to go to Ayutthaya from Bangkok is to take a day trip from Bangkok.  Small group tours travel in a minivan and give you maximum time in Ayutthaya with minimum hassle.

1. Minivans from Bangkok to Ayutthaya

It’s about 80 kilometers (50 miles) by road from Bangkok to Ayutthaya and the minivans from Bangkok to Ayutthaya are one of the easiest ways to go from Bangkok to Ayutthaya.  It takes about 2 hours to go from Bangkok to Ayutthaya by van and there are LOTS that go backward and forwards each day.  Most vans have air conditioning and some have WiFi.  They depart throughout the day from various bus stations like Mo Chit, Khao San, and Makasan, so you will be able to find a van that is leaving from close to where you’re staying in Bangkok.  If you arrive at a bus station to take a van to Ayutthaya then you’ll need to confirm the price and pay in cash.

You can also prebook and prepay for minivan transport from Bangkok to Ayutthaya.    Pre-bookable vans start to leave Bangkok at 7:30 am and the last van leaves at 4 pm.  If you go to bus stations after this time, then you’ll likely be able to find a van leaving.

You don’t need to print a ticket for minivans from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, you can use an electronic ticket from your online booking from Bangkok to Ayutthaya.
