Our Accommodation choices in Iceland.

The Black Beach Guesthouse: Our first night in Iceland. We selected it for the private bathroom, and the relatively short distance from the airport, but also it is relatively close to where we want to be for our first full day, and the Golden Circle. Good room, good shower, but poor drainage, good WiFi, and a TV so we could keep up with the FIFA World Cup. A good first night’s choice. Check it out here.
Hellisholar Cottage: – And this is just how we like it, we might be in Iceland’s South Coast, but we’re in a wooden cottage in a field, and there’s no one around. We have a full “cottage”, with a kitchen, four beds, a table, a deck, and a private bathroom. It’s lovely. Make sure you go for the kitchen option for maximum flexibility.
Hotel Hofn: Our only proper hotel of the trip. And the most expensive of all our accommodations. The South Coast is tough to navigate with cheaper accommodation. The hostel was booked, and the only other option was a guesthouse, some 15 km away, with only shared bathroom options. And those bathrooms? Shared between 10 rooms. Lovely room, great shower, good WiFi. There’s an in-house restaurant, although we didn’t use it, and an in-house cat too. Book early, this is popular with small tour groups.
Blabjorg Resort: Our only shared bathroom of the trip. And there were 3 between 11 rooms. All with great showers and super clean. A shared kitchen. An attic room. And the included breakfast was fabulous. We woke up here on Iceland National Day and were treated to a special cake on checkout. We loved it here.
Myvatn Vogahraun 4 – at Iceland’s Geothermal heart of Myvatn. A private bathroom in our twin room. We get a fridge and the world’s tiniest kettle. But there’s a fab space-saving shower, and we might be sharing the location with lots of campers – who are camping in vans, cars, and a couple of tents, but our space is all our space. And it’s right next to Daddi’s Pizza. Yay, no self-catering tonight – the pizza is fab, and the room was comfy too! Check it out here.
The Northern Comfort Inn, Ólafsfjörður. We have a private bathroom in what used to be a hotel. The hotel kitchen, restaurant, and lounge are all now shared spaces! There’s free laundry – washing machines AND dryers, free coffee and tea, and a “help yourself to what’s in the kitchen” vibe going on here. And this kitchen is amazing. And our clothes are all now clean. And I’m sitting on a leather Chesterfield sofa in the lounge writing this! We love it – you will too.
More coming as we continue our trip….photos arriving shortly too…
